About Historic Cooperstown
Known as "America's Most Perfect Village," Cooperstown offers a unique blend of history, culture, and natural beauty. Located on the southern shores of pristine Otsego Lake, it's a destination that captures the heart of everyone who visits.
A Village Rich in History
Founded in 1786 by William Cooper, father of the famous American author James Fenimore Cooper, the village is steeped in early American history. The author's "Leatherstocking Tales" immortalized the region, referring to Otsego Lake as "Glimmerglass."
Today, Cooperstown is world-renowned as the home of the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum. Every summer, thousands of fans make the pilgrimage to celebrate the sport's greatest legends, bringing a vibrant energy to the quaint downtown streets.

Nature & Recreation
The natural beauty of the area is simply unmatched. Otsego Lake provides a stunning backdrop for boating, fishing, and swimming during the summer months. The surrounding hills, including Glimmerglen, offer spectacular hiking and hunting opportunities.
Golf enthusiasts can enjoy the Leatherstocking Golf Course, considered one of the East's most scenic and challenging resort golf courses, located right on the edge of the lake at the Otesaga Resort Hotel.
Arts, Culture & Healthcare
Beyond baseball and nature, Cooperstown is a hub for the arts. The Glimmerglass Festival brings world-class opera and musical theater to the area every summer. The Fenimore Art Museum and The Farmers' Museum offer incredible insights into American art and 19th-century rural life.
Residents also benefit from Bassett Medical Center, a teaching hospital that provides world-class healthcare services to the region, making Cooperstown not just a great place to visit, but an exceptional place to live.
